Chun Kuk Do - the System::

The name of Chun Kuk Do identifies the unified set of philosophies, principles, and techniques that Mr. Chuck Norris has molded into the greatest, most complete martial arts system in the world today.

Black Belt Organization for the Art of Chun Kuk Do
Black belts in the art of Chun Kuk Do have the opportunity to join the United Fighting Arts Federation, or UFAF. The UFAF exists to serve the needs of its Chun Kuk Do black belt members. Among other things, it facilitates our international convention each year, and provides us with organized leadership and a society of friends with whom we enjoy practicing our art.

The Chun Kuk Do Student Organization
Under belt students of the art of Chun Kuk Do also have an n organization that they can belong to - we refer to it simply as the Chun Kuk Do student organization. Membership is mandatory for any student wishing to advance to black belt rank. In 1995, the UFAF introduced a policy that requires candidates for advancement to the rank of 1st degree black belt in the art of Chun Kuk Do to have members of the Chun Kuk Do student organization for a minimum of 3 years. This new policy is being phased in over three years. In 1995, one year of membership was required. In 1996, two years of membership was required. Beginning in January of 1997, three full years was required. This means that a student must have paid dues to the organization three separate times. The yearly dues for joining or renewing is $50.00.

Benefits of Membership
Students who join the CKD student organization receive several meaningful tokens of membership. Among them include:

Chun Kuk Do uniform patch
Certificate of membership bearing Mr. Norris's signature
Membership card (also bearing Mr. Norris's signature)
Subscription to "The Octagon" (delivered to instructors, who then give them to current members)
Opportunity to receive official CKD certificates of rank
Opportunity to purchase CKD merchandise (T-shirts, jackets, etc.)
Why A Student organization?
Despite this impressive list of benefits, some students may question the need to pay another $50.00 per year, over and above the regular dues that they pay for instruction. In such cases, students very likely don't understand how membership actually boosts the quality of their martial arts training.

One should not confuse "benefits of membership" with "reasons for membership". What are these reasons? Why does a student organization exist? What functions does it have? Following are some of the most important reasons why Mr. Norris has established the Chun Kuk Do student organization:

Support the continued advancement, standardization, and unification of the Chun Kuk Do system.
Support continuing education of CKD instructors.
Allow students to belong to a unified organization of fellow members who enjoy the benefits of membership.
Allow Mr. Norris and the students of the system he founded to identify strongly with each other.
Additionally, students have an opportunity to support Mr. Norris's Kick Drugs Out of America foundation - a great cause.

Simply put, the CKD student organization exists to enhance the learning experience of CKD students everywhere. Students notice this in many ways. When an instructor attends the annual International U.F.A.F Convention, or a school owner's seminar at Mr. Norris's ranch, the things he/she learns directly benefit the instructor's students. As high-ranking CKD black belts are allowed to travel to the various regions for instructional seminars (for black belts and students), the resulting unity from coast to coast and around the world, as well as the knowledge a student gains by attending, is far more worth than $50.00

U.F.A.F has always been about at least three things:
  • Working out and getting better at what we do
  • Working out With good friends
  • Doing something positive in the world around us.
